Understand the upgrade process for your PC
Moving to Windows 7 Home Basic from Windows Vista Home Basic or Home Premium qualifies as an upgrade. All other paths, including a move from a 64-bit edition of Windows Vista to a 32-bit edition of Windows 7, require a more detailed re-installation process.

Determine if 32 or 64-bit is right for you
Each package contains two disks: one with the 32-bit edition and one with the 64-bit edition of Windows 7. Please make sure you know which to install on your PC. The benefits of 64-bit are most apparent when you have a large amount of random access memory (RAM) installed on your computer, typically 4 GB of RAM or more. In such cases, because a 64-bit operating system can handle large amounts of memory more efficiently than a 32-bit operating system can, a 64-bit system can be more responsive when running several programs at the same time and switching between them frequently. Please note: if you are presently running 64-bit software on a PC running a 64-bit edition of Windows Vista and you move to a 32-bit edition of Windows 7, your 64-bit software may no longer work.

Très content d'être passé sous windows 7 64 bits (j'étais sous Xp pro 32 bits), je ne rencontre aucun problème pour l'installation de pilote sauf pour des périphériques trop anciennes (carte son, carte réseau) Rating: [5 of 5 Stars]

Pour une fois, j'avoue Microsoft a assuré ! Quasi pas de bug visible ou vraiment perturbant. Interface trés intuitive et logique donc on se l'approprie trés vite. A configuration identique, le PC est vraiment plus réactif. Bref, un passage à windows 7 réussi ! Un conseil malgrés tout, faites une sauvegarde de vos fichiers importants et préférez une installation vierge en formatant le DD plutot qu'une mise à jour ... vraiment !!! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars]

Windows 7 - I found it easy to load once I had got through the selection process to find the version that worked for my computer. Wireless network speed is much faster. Screen icons are very intuitive and easy to get used to. A few of my old programs would not work with Windows 7 but they are pretty old. I would recommend Windows 7 as an upgrade from XP. The best reason for me is how mush more friendly it is to use. When I finnshed my "custom" build the OS started downloading all the drivers automatically for my motherboard and graphics card. It saved me a lot of time and swearing fits that I normaly had with Vista. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars]
